The most important information for the festival at a glance |
|
Wednesday, 14 July 2010 20:20 |
Hey Rockers!
The Dong is only a few days away, so we decided to get you in the mood with all the important info you need to know:
Trash: No, we don’t expect you to bring your mom to clean up the mess you left behind, but please make sure you collect your garbage in the trash bags, bins and containers we supply. The Dong Hill is a landscape protection area and getting rid of your bagged trash is cheaper than collecting it from the bushes afterwards.
Tickets: If you lost your eTicket and would like us to resend it, please get in touch with benjamin.munschongopenair.de Do it now. Be assured that we will neither have nor take the time next week since we are certainly going to be busy to doing things to make sure your festival weekend rocks!
How to get there: Parking lots, shuttle service, box office (wrist band pick-up) and beer bar will be open from 9 a.m. If you show up any earlier than this, we’ll have to kick you out. Please make sure you follow staff instruction and only park where you are allowed to.
Food & Beverages: Of course a cold beer is 1,50€ - the same procedure as every year. This applies to the soft drinks as well. We will also stock up on whiskey-coke long drinks and “Poch”, a fruity cocktail we deemed suitable for our audience. If you decide to bring large quantities of beverages yourself, please be aware that these will not be transported up the hill in the shuttle bus. Half of the Dong budget comes from beverage sales, so every keg, every can and every bottle you decide to carry up that hill hurts the festival.
Of course the famous French fries will be sold at the almost traditional fast food booth. There will be a pizza booth as well. As usually, the prices are going to be at the regular festival level or below.
Your safety: Spiked studs on belts, wristbands, anything are not allowed. Weapons and replicas, noisemakers such as megaphones and vuvuzelas are forbidden as well. Open fire, whether it’s a barbecue or torches, is prohibited – especially considering the current weather conditions. Gas cookers are perfectly fine with us. Follow our staff’s and local authorities’s instructions!
Program: We don’t have anything new to announce. Despite singer Sakis’s broken leg, Rotting Christ will perform at the DOA 2010. Of course this and other things are subject to change. Go to the rockzoom.de booth to find out about the headliners’ signing sessions!
Ten years. We can hardly believe it. We’ll rock it! Your Dong Team |

10 Years Of World Domination! |

Cheers, you bums!
Hard to believe, but it sure is true! It has been so long, rarely anyone remembers. In the fall of 1999, pretty much exactly ten years ago, a small yet incredibly tasteful free website by the name of http://weltherrschaft.iscool.net (worlddomination.rocks) went online and reported about the deeds of the eight enlightened and all the truth behind the scenes, the Whalism. Almost two years later, the first Whalists’ meeting took place which eventually another year later was baptized Dong Open Air. I’m sure you guys know how that story ended, or rather went on.
Care for some nostalgia? Or just for some first-hand stories of the enlightened / first generation of Dong organizational team in their teenage-times? Both pictures and words? Go to http://weltherrschaft.iscool.net. We felt lucky the other day and decided to get the website back (but you can just as well go to www.walismus.de for more Whalism info).
To the next ten years of Beer, Whale and Prängel! The Enlightened |

Cheers guys!
Here are a few interesting pieces of information regarding the 2010 Dong festival! There will be two exceptions regarding the anniversary edition of our fest:
The first exception will be the date. The Dong Open Air will rock the hill at the fourth weekend of July, which means July 23rd and 24th. Why is that? On our traditional third weekend of July the autobahn A40 will be closed due to the Ruhr2010 (you know, Essen and the Ruhrgebiet being cultural capital of Europe) making room for celebrations right there. Many of our suppliers and other partners will be working there, which means, we’ll have to postpone our fest a little.
But don’t worry, the soccer world championship finale will take place two weeks before and Wacken will happen two weeks after our date. After 2010 we will of course get back to normal so you have an easy time planning out your summer.
The second exception for 2010 will be that we won’t be accepting any band applications. We have something very special in store for you guys to appropriately celebrate our anniversary. Our application form online will thus be down this fall, but it’ll be back for the following Dong.
We will give you all the juicy details about what’s soo special about 2010 once we’re ready. *mysterious*
Take care,
Your Dong Team |

Latest Info on the Bleeding Edge Festival |

Hello dear Donganians,
It’s time to see you guys again and next Saturday is the day to do so! At 12:30 AM on this coming Saturday d.o.a. concerts will open the gates of the Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen to the Bleeding Edge Festival for you!
If you already decided to join us there, but do not have a ticket yet, make sure you still get one of those tickets we sell in advance. Metaltix has already stopped selling the tickets because they cannot guarantee you will receive your purchase in time. Our print@home system at www.doaconcerts.de will be up and running until Wednesday. Ticketmaster and all the other places distributing tickets directly still have a bunch of tickets left. Jules Papp in Krefeld will sell tickets until Friday.
If you are more of the spontaneous kind: We are going to have a box office set up so you can buy your ticket at the venue.
To wet your appetite a bit, here are the special offers we arranged for you for that day:
- Borknagar are going to be there as a bit of a best-of combo of well-known bands (Vintersorg, Emperor, Solefald, Arsis…) and they are about to release their new album (more info in the Borknagar blog at www.doaconcerts.de)
- Solstafir, Secrets Of The Moon, Code and Powerwolf are eager to show off their brand new records as well
- The Grailknights will be playing one of their last shows in their old school armors before switching to awesome new gear
- The first 100 people to come automatically take part in a raffle for 3 x 2 free tickets to the Dong Open Air 2010, several Solstafir “Köld” CDs, Grailknights fan packages including some rare items and many more goodies provided by the other performing bands. Doors open at 12:30AM.
- The Bleeding Edge will be selling a special edition of 100 Dong Open Air 2009 crew shirts. Those were the ones with rearing stallion. You can check out a picture of it and of course get all the additional info of the whole festival, like
the running order and stuff at www.doaconcerts.de.
At the bus stop “Im Lipperfeld” busses will take you to the station of Oberhausen throughout the night and the day, too, of course.
We are looking forward to party hard with you!
Take care,
Your Dong Team |

Hey there!
Too good to be true, but apparently it is... Next year will be the tenth year of the Dong Open Air! Whoa!
While we are currently thinking about what to do for the anniversary, you can already get a ticket for it! When, where and how? At the 26th of September at the Bleeding Edge Festival!
Among the first 100 metalheads, we will be raffling a whole lot of goodies! CDs and merchandise of the bands performing at the Bleeding Edge, but also 3 x 2 tickets to the D.O.A 2010. Show up early with the ticket for the Bleeding Edge you got at www.doaconcerts.de through the Print@Home system and make sure to get one of those free Dong tickets (since the ticket sale in the spring sure won't last too long) at the venue.
Last but not least, we'd like to remind you that we'll be selling reprints of the Dong Crew shirts of 2009 (billing 2009 on the back instead of the crew print).
Good luck and see you soon,
Your Dong Team |

Dong crew-shirts at the Bleeding Edge Festival |

Cheers!
Good news for everyone who plans on coming to the Bleeding Edge Festival at the 26th of September which takes place in the Turbinenhalle in Oberhausen! The Dong Open Air crew shirts with the stallion on it were so popular, we decided to do a reprint of the shirt to sell it at the Bleeding Edge Festival! Instead of the crew print on the back we’ll put the lineup of 2009 though. There will only be 100 shirts, so make sure you show up early if you want one!
If you still have to be convinced to attend this d.o.a concerts event, you should check out www.doaconcerts.de. Headliner BORKNAGAR is the band currently focused on there. You will find brilliant bootleg material of the Wacken 2009 show as well as a Rockalarm TV interview and a blog dealing with the exceptional lineup of the band among other things.
In case you don’t have a ticket yet, you may want to check out the ticket raffles of Metal-Only.de and Metalviecher.de. During the next couple of days both will be raffling free tickets! Metalviecher.de will start the lottery on Saturday, 29th of August, picking the winners a week later! Just check out www.metalviecher.de and take part in the lottery! Shortly afterwards Metal-Only.de will be giving away tickets in their special Bleeding Edge show at the 6th of September from 2pm to 4pm. Tune in!
If you are not in luck or would rather get your tickets right now (we made it into the Top10 of ticket sales at metaltix!), please take a look at these thrifty ways of getting your way into the Turbinenhalle:
Jules Papp in Krefeld still sells the tickets at €25, no extra fees whatsoever. The print@home system at www.doaconcerts.de (works just like it did for the Dong) only charges 99 cents extra. Of course you can also buy the tickets at Metaltix, Ticketmaster and most ticket salespoints around the corner! Have fun getting your ticket, it’ll definitely be worth it.
Last but not least, we’d like to direct your attention to the Dong Open Air feedback form in which you can send us your love and hate about the D.O.A 2009. Of course you can also submit the stories of your adventures at the Dong hill which may make it into the next program booklet in 2010. Send your stories to

Every submitted story we print will take part in a raffle for a free Dong 2010 shirt!

Dear festival lovers!
After our first, rather cryptic message right after the ninth Dong Open Air, we’d now like to thank you guys explicitly! You, the audience, were excellent and made the festival rock harder than ever before! Also, the camp ground proved to be very peaceful this year! Thanks to the bands of the awesome line up, including Dew Scented who had to cancel due to sickness, but whose singer Leif helped us get a new band to come instead. We bow our head to the crew, the executive of every festival, who – just like every year – did an awesome job! The cooperation between the fire fighters, the order of Malta volunteers, police, public services and the THW went very well, leaving us with a fully satisfying Dong 2009! Last but not least we'd like to thank the press and our photographers who spread the word and take care of lovely memories!
One less lovely report has to be made though, as we need your help. During the Dong night from Friday to Saturday around 11pm, a white Volvo 940 was damaged. The car was parked on the crew parking lot on the hill next to the front stage area and fell victim to a photo session. A blond girl lounged on the car, posing for a photographer with a rather professional seeming camera equipment, and damaged it. If anyone witnessed this and respectively can give us any information on the girl or the photographer, please do so at: stephan.liehr[ät]dongopenair.de.
While you guys were busy raiding the country's loveliest festivals we have been busy doing the aftermath of the D.O.A. Of course we put our feedback form online and would love you guys to fill it in and to let us know about the good, the bad and the ugly of this year's feast. It doesn't take long and really helps us improve for 2010. The problems some of you may have experienced with the form have been taken care of and everything should work smoothly now.
Also, we are looking forward to reading more contributions from your side. Send us your weirdest, funniest and most interesting experiences and adventures of your personal Dong history. From 2009 or any other year. Send your story to
This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
and maybe your story gets published in the 2010 issue of the Dong Open Air pogram! We will raffle a Dong 2010 shirt among all participants!
And to make the wait a bit more bearable, we'd like to remind you of the Bleeding Edge Festival, which is to take place at the 26th of September in Oberhausen! Get your ticket without paying the usual pre-sale fees – just like the tickets we sold at the Dong – for the big party with Borknagar, Equilibrium etc. at any time at Jules Papp in Krefeld or at the Burgfolk festival (Haggard, Schelmish, Korpiklaani and more)at the Aug 22 (next Saturday) at Schloss Broich in Mülheim a.d. Ruhr. If you don’t have time to drop by, you can get your tickets at Metaltix where we’ve already made it into the Top20 of sales! You can also get your ticket at ticketmaster or most other ticket shops. The cheapest way of ordering online is still at www.doaconcerts.de at only 99c of fee!
We hope to see you in Oberhausen! Your Dong team

Howdy, The Dong Cow has yet again made its way through the city with a fistful of cows and a bunch of cowboys, of course. The eight sheriffs re-established law and order and let the jolly group move on. Now there’s a sign – many signs – at the saloon door, displaying the faces of the most wanted: Many deputies, A group of blacksmiths who made lots of noise, The riders of the strong cavalry, The town’s doc, The fire fighters The men of the administration. They are wanted for multiple violations of the law against orderly and good work and the distribution of fun! The sheriff demands the maximum penalty for these misdemeanours: Infinite thankfulness! Anyone who can help us find these wanted criminals will receive an unexpectedly high bounty! The Sheriff P.S.: Last, but not least lots of thanks to our towns cowboys!
